Alumni Research - Evaluation Report - 1995 -2005

Cornerstone is committed to producing graduates who are self-managing individuals, prepared leaders for service in churches and communities and critical citizens. Cornerstone has over the last decade, offered theological and non-theological training in order to equip students as they study in the context of a community committed to being a Christ Centred academic institution.  Over the past term a research project has been undertaken to evaluate the impact Cornerstone has had on its graduates and in turn their ability to actively live out the Good news of Jesus Christ in a diverse community and broken world.  Results show the diversity of the student body which has had students from all around Cape Town , South Africa , Africa and the world. Cornerstone’s diversity is also evident in terms of denominational background. This diversity allows for students to grapple with their spirituality and ultimately find a rock of faith on which they can stand.  Of particular interest are results revealing the post study professions of Cornerstone graduates:

32% of our graduates are in full time ministry in the Church,

12% are in full time ministry with mission organisations.

17% of Cornerstone graduates are engaged in community work or work with NGO’s,

17% are working in the field of Education, 10% are furthering their education and

11% are in market place employment.

These results demonstrate that have found meaningful work in the full spectrum of life. The percentage of students furthering their education suggests that Cornerstone encourages its graduates to become “critical citizen” and pursuers of lifelong learning. Cornerstone  provides opportunity for Spiritual development, worldview development (as students come to understand Gods heart for the world more deeply), personal development (in that Cornerstone provides opportunity for character foundations to be laid), social development (through being confronted with diversity in community and developing a multidimensional view of humankind) and finally Cornerstone enables students to develop the practical skills necessary for service in churches and communities. All the areas of development Cornerstone nurtures are enabling graduates to actively live out the good news of Jesus Christ in Cape Town , South Africa , Africa and the world.
