Community Service Initiatives
(CSIs) are an important part of the curriculum for first and
second year students at Cornerstone, counting as credit towards
graduation requirements. All students enrolled in our three-year
programmes are required to complete two CSIs prior to their
third year of studies. Although many students are engaged in
ministry through their local churches, CSIs are designed to meet
a different set of objectives that are equally important for the
students' overall experience at Cornerstone:
-
Put into practice what has
been learned in the classroom.
-
Provide opportunities for
staff and students to engage with communities together.
-
Develop a greater sense of
community with both staff and students.
-
Expose students to community
engagement opportunities that they might not otherwise
consider.
-
Add value to a community
around a mutually agreed need.
Each year CSIs are planned for
both the June – July holidays and throughout the year. Students
are given the opportunity to choose from a variety of options of
both local and distant CSIs. Examples of typical CSIs include
holiday clubs, working with NGOs serving the needs of the poor,
mission trips, and community enhancement projects.
